This particular Blue Hole is a diving location in the eastern Sinai, a few kilometers north of Dahab on the coast of the Red Sea.
It is basically a sea cave.
It is 90 - 130 meters deep, and there are a few similar spots elsewhere on Earth: in the Bahamas, for example, and in Belize.
Blue holes are round, steep-walled depressions, and get their name from the dramatic contrast between the dark blue, deep waters of their depths and the lighter blue of the shallows around them.
The Egyptian version has a shallow opening around 6 meters deep opening out to the sea, and a 26 meter tunnel, known as the Arch, the top of which is 52 meters.
The Blue Hole is notorious for the number of fatal diving accidents which have occurred there, earning it the nickname "Diver's Cemetery". The site is marked by a sign that says "Blue hole: Easy entry". There have been at least 40 deaths reported; it is assumed that the real number is double this figure.
